Rising To The Call

last weekend I read Rising To The Call: Discover the Ultimate Purpose of Your Life. For some reason I've been enjoying the first half of books lately and have found the second half less interesting. I feel the same about this one. Most of the meaty stuff is in the first half. The thought that sticks out to me the most is this, "First and foremost we are called to Someone (God), not to something (such as motherhood, politics, or teaching) or to somewhere (such as the inner city or Outer Mongolia)." It may not seem very profound but I think I have a tendency to quickly move past the first calling to the second calling "...everyone, everywhere, and in everything should think, speak, live, and act entirely for Him." There is a big difference between pursuing a calling to God and a calling for God. When we pursue a calling to God our primary focus is on him, not on ambition, success, or accomplishments, and it can't be about us because moving toward God is always about letting go of selfishness. The things we do for God, on the other hand, can easily be distorted to fit our own desires and can quickly drift from our primary calling to him.
