Erwin McManus on Prayer

The quotes below are from a sermon by Erwin entitled "Prayer: Spiritual Activism" available on the Mosaic podcast through iTunes.

"The difference between a follower of Jesus Christ and followers of other religions is not that we pray, but that we hear God when he speaks and we obey when he tells us what to do." - Erwin McManus

"Faith is not about working up your belief in God. Faith is about hearing God, knowing that when God speaks it is not a request it's a command. So when you hear his voice you move in obedience to his voice." - Erwin McManus

"What the world is looking for are not people who pray, but people who when they pray somehow hear from God and do what God says. The best evidence that you are a man of prayer is that you do what God says when you hear it. Are you willing to become that kind of man of prayer?" - Erwin McManus

I Kings 18:36-39
36 At the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, elijah the prophet came near and said, "O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and I have done all these things at Your word.
37 "Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that You, O Lord, are God, and that You have turned their heart back again."
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The Lord, He is God; the Lord, He is God."
